Desmond Smith

Desmond Smith proudly serves as the Principal of Pioneer High School, where he is honored to lead one of Michigan's most distinguished high schools. Since joining Pioneer in 2023, Mr. Smith has embraced the school's longstanding tradition of academic excellence, student achievement, and community pride while working to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Mr. Smith has dedicated his career to public education since 2006. Throughout his educational journey, he has served as a high school social studies and history teacher, assistant principal at multiple high schools in Wayne and Oakland counties, middle school principal, and now principal of Pioneer High School. These diverse leadership experiences have shaped his collaborative approach to supporting students, staff, families, and the school communities.

A passionate advocate for educational equity and student success, Mr. Smith is committed to fostering a school culture rooted in belonging, care, high expectations, and opportunities. He believes every student deserves access to exceptional learning experiences, meaningful relationships, and adults who champion their potential.
